“I became interested in science at a very young age. I soon realized its potential to change our views and the world. I learned to respect the complexity of reality. During my academic career, I spent a year as a visiting researcher in Frankfurt. At that time, I became interested in economics and finance. I also began to understand more broadly the environmental impacts of contemporary lifestyles. While I’m a devoted urbanist, I’m convinced that protecting the environment and biodiversity is everyone's benefit. In the quest for greater wellbeing of nature we must rely on science and exploit technological opportunities. I’m particularly excited by the potential of genetic engineering, artificial intelligence and nuclear energy. Because the world is complex, as are our global challenges, I want to encourage flexibility in thinking and its adaptation to new knowledge.”
